Am 2. Mai 1945 befreiten Einheiten der 82. US-Luftlandedivision und der 8. US-Infanterie-Division das Konzentrationslager Wöbbelin – das letzte Außenlager des KZ Neuengamme. Diesem bedeutsamen Tag sind am 2. Mai 2026, dem 81. Jahrestag, mehrere Gedenkveranstaltungen gewidmet.

Um 10 Uhr beginnt die öffentliche, internationale Gedenkveranstaltung auf dem ehemaligen Lagergelände des KZ Wöbbelin an der L72. Neben Rede- und Musikbeiträgen wird es auch die Möglichkeit geben, einzelne Blumen abzulegen. Von Kränzen bitten wir abzusehen.

Anschließend findet um 11:30 Uhr ein Gedenken auf dem Ehrenfriedhof „Am Bassin“ in Ludwigslust statt. Danach lädt die Stadtpastorin zum individuellen Innehalten in der Stadtkirche Ludwigslust ein.

Um 12 Uhr läuten die Glocken der Stadtkirche Ludwigslust im Gedenken an die Befreiung des Konzentrationslagers Wöbbelin.

26. April: „Deutschland, siehst du das nicht…?“ – Untergang der Weimarer Republik (1929-1933) / Ein Literaturkonzert der Gruppe Opus 45 mit MusikerInnen namhafter Orchester und dem Schauspieler Roman Knižka (15 Uhr)

30. April: Lesung und Vernissage der Ausstellung „Stille Zeugnisse“ im Gemeindehaus Rastow

1. Mai: Forum für Angehörige ehemaliger Häftlinge und Befreier des Konzentrationslagers Wöbbelin mit Tanztheaterperformance

 

On May 2, 1945, units of the 82nd U.S. Airborne Division and the 8th U.S. Infantry Division liberated the Wöbbelin concentration camp — the last satellite camp of Neuengamme. Several commemorative events on May 2, 2026, the 81st anniversary, are dedicated to this significant day.

The public international commemoration ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the former washing barrack on the former camp grounds along the L72. In addition to speeches and musical contributions, there will be an opportunity to lay flowers. We kindly ask you to refrain from placing wreaths.

At 11:30 a.m., a commemoration will take place at the “Am Bassin” honorary cemetery in Ludwigslust. Afterwards, the city pastor invites visitors to a moment of personal reflection in the Ludwigslust town church.

At 12 p.m., the bells of the town church will ring in remembrance of the liberation of the Wöbbelin concentration camp.
